Heidi began her career in vocational rehabilitation in 1988 where she first worked as a Job Developer for Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette. As her career progressed she gained experience and skill in working with special populations of people including those with Traumatic Brain Injury, Learning Disabilities and Psychiatric Conditions. In 1991 Heidi developed and managed a TBI Vocational Program and then went on to take over all Transitional VR Services at Goodwill. In 1996, following receipt of her master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with specialized training in Vocational Evaluation, Heidi opened the doors of Dirkse Counseling & Consulting. Also at that time, she began teaching in the Portland State University Graduate School of Education's Counseling Program, where she taught the theories and practice of job placement and training for individuals with disabilities. In her company, Heidi serves as acting President where she consults on cases with staff, develops new opportunities and provides direct services in HR consulting and vocational evaluation. |

Glenn has been part of the professional team at Dirkse Counseling & Consulting since March 2000. He is the working manager of a team of vocational counselors who provide job development, job retention and community based assessment. He holds specialized knowlede in working with individuals with cognitive impairments such as MR/DD, TBI, and Learning Disabilities. Glenn also has extensive experience working with individuals with psychiatric disabilities. His prior counseling experience includes seven years counseling & mentoring emotionally and physically abused boys in a local residential treatment facility. Mr. Bishop matriculated with a Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration from Oregon State University in 1991 and a Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland State University in 2004. He is an adjunct Professor at Portland State University in the Counselor Education Department and serves on the P.S.U. Rehabilitation Advisory Board.

Ron is an experienced Vocational Consultant who has been living in the
Portland area for over thirty years. His educational background
includes a Bachelor's Degree from Parsons College. Ron's focus is job
development, job coaching, job retention and to establish working
relationships with local employers. When asked what he enjoys most
about this job, Ron's reply was, "The satisfaction of finding quality employment for
clients and seeing that they are able to successfully maintain it."
Prior to working as a Vocational Consultant, Ron managed a small
software company in Portland. As an avocation, Ron has conducted
historical walking tours of downtown Portland and was a tour guide of
the Portland Chinese Classical Garden for over three years. |

Andrew has been working as a Vocational and General Counselor with DCC since June of 2004 and is often seen with a perpetual cup of joe in hand. In our vocational rehabilitation services, Andrew provides specialized job development, community based assessment and job retention services. He has gained experience working with individuals with various psychiatric and cognitive limitations in DCC's VR program. He also works as a general counselor with expertise in working with children, couples and families.
Andrew originally moved to the Portland area in 2002 to pursue a new degree and career. His prior work primarily had been in video and film for a corporate marketing department. He received a B.A. in Creative Writing and Communications from Beloit College, after which he served with the Central European Teaching Program for two years living in a small village (i.e. Gheorgheni) in Transylvania, Romania. He was teaching English to 6th – 12th grade students. He received his M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from George Fox University and works at Dirkse as case manager and counselor. He is registered with the State of Oregon to pursue licensure as both LMFT and LPC. |

Laura joined DCC's team in April 2008 in a dual role of Administrative Assistant and Vocational Consultant. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from California State University, Sacramento. She is originally from the Sacramento, California area and moved to Portland in June of 2007. Laura is passionate about helping others and has been involved in gerontology focusing on dementia and Alzheimer's. Throughout her life she has volunteered in elder care facilities and retirement homes. In college she volunteered for the Alzheimer's Association and for the Northern California Alzheimer's Society, educating and helping individuals and families who are affected by Alzheimer's disease. Laura also did an internship as a Teaching Assistant for one of her Communications Professors for two years with collaboration in the EOP Program (Educational Opportunity Program). Laura taught and tutored college freshman students in Communications, College Skills, and English. |

Joel is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado and moved to Oregon in 2005. Upon moving, Joel attended school at Western Oregon University where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling. During this time Joel emerged himself into Deaf culture in which he learned American Sign Language. Joel has background in working with youth populations whom are developmentally delayed, as well as, providing psychiatric crisis services as a credentialed Quality Mental Health Associate (Q.M.H.A.).
